WHMIS is a hazard communication system designed to ensure workers using hazardous materials, also known as controlled products, have all the necessary information to safely handle, store and dispose of these materials. This course meets the legislated worker training requirements for all provinces and territories in Canada.
Who Should Take the Course?
The course is intended for any employee that comes in “close proximity” to hazardous material(s).
Topics Covered
Unit 1: An Introduction to WHMIS
Unit 2: Product Labels
Unit 3: WHMIS Hazard Symbols
Unit 4: Material Data Safety Sheets (MSDSs)
Unit 5: WHMIS Education - Roles and Responsibilities
Unit 6: Exemptions and Restricted Applications
Evaluation Process
At the end of each unit there is a quiz that participant must challenge and answer all questions correctly to continue. You can view review material and take the quiz again when you’re ready.
Course Duration
On average between 2-3 hours. The course is self-paced so it depends on the learner and any prior knowledge of WHMIS or previous WHMIS training.
Please Note: Employers will have to supplement this training with worksite specific training to ensure that their workers are aware of and understand the hazards associated with the controlled products that they use and how to safely work with them, and where to locate protective equipment and MSDS in your workplace.
